Skylight l Swamp Cooler to Skylight Conversion
Swamp Cooler Conversion to Skylight
Step one is to remove the old cooler.
Note the ductwork is left in place and the weather integrity of the roof is not compromised.
Finished Skylight Installed on Same Roof
Attractive Finished Product- no need to call a roofer
The duct work that was already installed and weatherproof is not disturbed- except that it is cut of to match the pitch of the roof at 5″ above the roof line, the skylight system then “caps” that duct work. Swamp Cooler installations and the dimensions of the duct can vary from one installation to the next. The system is made to accommodate up to 21″ duct. The flashing / curb pictured below- is a secondary flashing for aesthetic purposes only- it is not what makes the system leak proof. Down the road when the house is re-roofed- it does give the roofer something to flash to and make the new roof watertight against the skylight.
Finished product on inside of Hallway
No need to hire sheet rock or paint repair
The inside light diffuser is translucent and 24″ square- large enough to cover the scar left behind by the old diffuser, layers of different colored paint etc…
